Fixed Gear Touring: Equipment, Weight, and Brands

Some of the first things that we noticed people were interested in when discussing our trips are what equipment we carry on our bikes, how much, what it weighs, and what brand it is. So as our first posting in the trip blog about the “Biking to Jerusalem” trip, we decided we should post a detailed list of the equipment. The following contains the previously mention list, which is broken into sections.  We have also indicated the items that we still need. We want to know what everyone thinks so give us some comments on what we like to call living life on less than 35 pounds. Poverty? it sure seems like it. Just enough to get any fixed gear tourist across four continents and eleven countries. Once again we have not acquired all of the gear we plan on taking, but we are close. An updated list will also be posted before we leave on September 1st to Jerusalem with all the gear and the total bike weight with the equipment packed on or in it. Thanks already to our early sponsors and everyone else who has provided their support.

Hi guys, The website looks great. Is there any part of your equipment that you're concerned about having to replace on the trip?

Yes, we have some replacement parts for some of the equipment, but it will be with friends. They will ship equipment to us if needed. We expect no failures, but somthing could happen and more than likly will.

I sent an e-mail to the editor of bikeportland suggesting he check out your website and post an article about it on their website. No word yet.

Hey Matt and Alex,
Just watched the LG to SF video. That was fantastic! I could watch it over and over. Obvious you had a great time and felt a sense of accomplishment at every destination. Makes me want to join you for 3 days on the next trip. Of course I'd wait for an invitation!
